Hell No We Won't Go

I'm feeling a bit blue these days.Last Thursday our landlord called to notify us he wants us out.He was really nice about it well, as nice as can be when you're kicking someone out in the street.He's given us 5 month.That sounds adequate but considering we haven't found anything in our 15 months of previous searching 5 months is like tomorrow to us.At first he was explaining he wanted to tear down our building ,the building to our right and a property on the next lot over to build a row of warehouses."Construction is set to begin next summer."he said."Actually, that works out perfectly.Our attorney is negotiating a deal with the city to allow us to stay until July of next year.""I'm sorry you misunderstood our time frame.For construction to begin next summer I need the buildings to be vacated by October.There has to be sufficient time allotted for demolition and subsequent scraping of the lots."he said.The sound of my heart breaking and the bottom falling out of my piggy bank  made the next few sentences hard to comprehend.He offered several other sites he owns as new locations for us.He even offered two vacant lots he could have something constructed to fit our needs on.These were crap offers to soothe his conscience.None of the offered sites fit our zoning requirements(the city and surrounding municipalities have made it virtually impossible for us to meet all their zoning requirements.).About a year ago he offered one of the same sites and discovered then he had nothing that met our licensing guidelines.That's how I know it's a crap offer.The city tried intimidating him about a year ago but he told us not to worry about it because he wasn't.Our location was "rezoned"due to a revitalization project scheduled for the surrounding area.An antique district and luxury town homes and condos are the main focuses of the project.Warehouses do not fit that image.Not to mention the lots he is talking about scraping are not zoned for warehouses.The city would not give him a variance for warehouses to interfere with their snooty old project.He is either lying or the city made some deal to allow the warehouses if he got rid of us.We just spent $13,000.00 to get the place back up to code after the fire.He had to know last month when we spoke and I told him about rewiring the building and all the other repairs we had to do that he was going to throw us out.Plans to faze out three existing businesses and under take a construction project don't take form over night.There are plans and financing to secure and we are so screwed whether it took a day or a year we are screwed(getting fucked at my own expense is no fun).There are so many things I wish I would have said to him.It is rare for me to be speechless but I couldn't hardly breathe much less think.I just can't believe he would let us sink that kind of money into the place to tell us to get out a month and a half later.I know he comes from a wealthy family but he has to realize that is a bunch of money.After 2 1/2 weeks with no money coming in and all the repairs we are tapped out.Our new building fund is gone. Even if we found a building tomorrow we do not have the money for security deposits,licenses(it is $500 for the city to give an answer on adult business applications.Now that is discrimination. Maybe we could start a National Association for the Advancement of Conscientious Prostitutes. ),renovations and  another rent until we could open.He is suppose to check on zoning of his offerings and get back with me.I will be prepared next time we talk(I hope).  The attorney says not to worry that he can put him off and keep us in business indefinitely but I don't feel comfortable with that.Not to mention how much  that will cost.Our landlord has several attorneys on retainer and he could bog us down in constant paperwork and appearances.Our attorney was out of town until Thursday of this week so I haven't spoke with him directly.We did the phone tag thing and he threw out the message about his stalling talent as a life (or sanity) preserver for me.To make it just perfect we are entering our slow period.June,July and August are our slowest months of the year.I called our phone book rep and we still have time to  add a line about a new location opening late 2005.I guess that's something.Yeah, I do believe everything happens for a reason and I know things will be okay.If we had to go back to running an escort service we could.I do not want to but I could.The city is probably feeling pretty smug right about now.Maybe I could assemble a small army of Ninja Whores and slaughter them all in their communal places of judgment.We are providing a public service.Prostitution has been around forever.Do they really believe we are just going to close our legs and scurry away under some bed.Get Real!How many guys really want that to happen?It is ashamed we are too stigmatized to elicit public support or we would put a financial hurting on our area.We could overwhelm them with letters and refuse to frequent any business owned or operated by our elected officials.But we are so we won't.Instead we will pack up our tricks and move to some other out of the way spot and discreetly please and tease until some other elected repressed deviant gets a hard on and satisfies it by flexing his power and proves to himself that he is above  the rest of us carnal degenerates and gets off on our despair and vulnerability.  I haven't shared this news with any of the girls yet.I don't want them to panic and worry.It's a story for another day but Diamond has already tried to kill herself once this month.Wow,that should get a nut for at least one of our foes.Maybe they could convince themselves they are saving us poor fools from our crazy ass selves.Speaking of crazy I probably sound that way myself right about now.I'm just ranting and raving(and possibly making no sense to anyone but me)and welcome to my current mess of a life.Don't anybody write to me about better planning or I should have saved more money or anything else negative.I've already given myself as much of a lashing as I can take at the moment.

It sure sounds like your landlord made a deal with the city to bury you to improve his own situation. I hope you find a new home. Could you move out of the city limits and still keep your customer base? You need to write more when you are frustrated. It's therapeutic.
